Institute of Liturgical Music

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

I am quoting myself in the hope that we can discuss the topic - the NILM.

musicus wrote:Indeed, presbyter. Back to the topic please (or start a new thread).

The main aim of the institute is the "the enhancement of the Liturgy in English Parish Churches on Sundays and holydays". Should discussions of how that might be achieved in practice be moved to another thread :?:

Yes, if they don't pertain to the topic, which is the ILM. Arguably, this entire forum is about "the enhancement of the Liturgy in English Parish Churches on Sundays and holydays".

ILM? Enhancement of the liturgy? You mean a return to the 13th century more like. If it means cutting the keyboards, microphones, drums, warm sentiment and inclusiveness, count me out. Do they not know that the Catholic Church has changed? Real Catholic music is not that old depressing moaning and groaning. It's upbeat and syncopated. Catholicism with a smile! You're not going to get that from the Oratorians and these other reactionaries.

Inclusiveness - a good target. How are you going to include people who find upbeat syncopation depressing? Remember that "catholic" means "universal".

Quite right Nazard. Less depressing gregorian stuff and more drums, percussion machines, vocal pops, swaying and smiling. It's the way forward.

Sorry, musicus, that's getting too complicated for me. Perhaps you might explain with examples.

Alright, I admit I'm cut off from my roots. I ain't cultured. I'm just a slave to fashion and rosaries ain't in just now.

Wot, no PA? 'Ow can you 'ave a mass without a PA?

I go to mass to 'ave a good time. You lot are just too serious.

Ah, the music of wot's happenin'. It will be very interesting to see the impact of the training of priests on liturgies in different places, and the reaction of congregations to any implementation. I don't expect it all to be quite like the above.
