Back to the 70s

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Back to the 70s

Post by johnquinn39 »

Mass is now bringing back floods of nostalgia:

Clouds of incence .... endless litanies of obscure saints names ... more mincing around on the altar than in a mincemeat factory (doing the red) ...

It's a tedious little phrase, much beloved in some quarters: "saying the black and doing the red" - that is, sticking to the (black) text and obeying the (red) rubrics. Not dressing up in clown suits and making it all up as we go along, as many suspect.

Goodness, even the Cappa appears to have been through the 60s mini phase!

mince
late 14c., from O.Fr. mincier "make into small pieces," from V.L. *minutiare "make small," from L.L. minutiæ "small bits," from L. minutus "small" (see minute).

The two could be combined if you had a dancing priest!

As an ex-English teacher, I couldn't resist editing the topic's title.

I like the wryness of your style, musicus. Not least because the first post made it difficult to distinguish the topic (whatever it might be) from the comment's sophisticated blend of homophobia and anti-clericalism.

NT
Please do not understand me - I am not being homophobic or anti-clerical! - (some of my best friends are priests)

The topic, to clarify, is indeed the increasing feeling of nostalgia for the early 70's I now get
at Mass with retro and untraditional practices like receiving communion on the tounge etc. coming back.

Also, I am not for one moment saying that clerics with c(r)appa magnas are a bunch of raving nancy-boys - but
it has to be said that they do a very good impression of being so.
