Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers
A very informative day - lots of ideas and practical examples - and lovely little treats to go with the tea and coffee. Thanks to all concerned.

Sounds as though a good time was had by all.

A week on, I'm presuming the answer is "no".
Any news from the Salford event?

Re: The New Texts: A Seminar for Composers
Judging by the verbal feedback and the evaluation forms, it would seem that the seminar was very well received, both in London and Salford. Composers and non-composers alike have reported that they found the event interesting and informative.
Both days had the same format: Martin Foster (Liturgy Office) set the scene for the arrival of the new texts, Fr Alan Griffiths looked at the texts themselves in some depth and then Martin took us through the process for submitting settings for acceptance. The afternoon sessions were given over to the composers talking about their own experiences of setting the texts, looking at examples of their own music and others and discussing what may or may not work, depending up the make up of a particular assembly and the musical resources of a particular parish.
Some eighty people attended across the two seminars and many said they were glad to have found something to help inform composers/musicians.
I’d like to thank all our speakers who worked very hard in preparation, and who were all excellent. I’d also like to thank both St. John’s Cathedral, Salford, and St. Augustine’s, Hammersmith for their hospitality.

And I'd like to thank Mary for gently organising the events and the composers!
