Inaugural organ recital at Wansted, 4 March 2011 at 7.30

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Inaugural organ recital at Wansted, 4 March 2011 at 7.30

Post by musicus »

Roderick Simes, Director of Music at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Wanstead, has sent details of an organ recital to inaugurate their new Robin Jennings organ. He writes "At Our Lady of Lourdes in Wanstead we have had a new pipe organ built and installed. (I know I am extremely fortunate!!!!) It is not large but remarkably versatile. We are holding an opening recital on 4th March and I would like to give other members the opportunity to come. Anybody interested enough would also be welcome to have a go themselves (on another day, of course)."
The recital will be given by Geoffrey Morgan (Christchurch Priory) and will be followed by refreshments in the Parish Pastoral Centre. There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Organ Fund.

The programme is as follows:
Prelude and Fugue in D (Buxtehude)
Chorale Prelude “Nun kom, der Heiden Heiland” (JS Bach)
Toccata and Fugue in D minor (JS Bach)
Introduction and Trumpet Tune (W Boyce)
Adagio in E (F Bridge) [corrected - moderator]
Canzone Op. 40 (Guilmant)
Fantasia in F minor K608 (Mozart)
Humoreske (Dvorak, arr. Edwin Lemare)
Concert Overture in C (Alfred Hollins, 1889)

Me too, but it also beeped them when I posted the stop list here here last week.

Photos of the instrument are available on the Brentwood diocesan site.
I'm looking forward to hearing it.

It's a Contra Bassoon stop, in its Italian guise. I will ask admin to see if he can't prune the bleep-list so as to allow this common instrument whose name apparently has other connotations.

(Doc: I'm sorry - I quite overlooked your earlier post about this organ.)

You can't beat a beeping 16' Reed.... unless it's a beeping 32' reed I suppose - now that would be a foundation shaker

Would that in fact be the Bridge Adagio in E I wonder? (A gorgeous piece!) I don't know of one in G.

I am reliably informed that it is indeed the Bridge Adagio in E. G would just be a bridge too far (actually a bridge to sol  )

Brentwood's website actually has it as Adagio in G. Perhaps they should be told...
