Pipe Organ for sale

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Pipe Organ for sale

Post by presbyter »

This one manual instrument is for sale. It's not listed among the IBO redundant instruments. PM me if you would like further details.

Interesting. Matthew Copley did some fine work in the past.

Do you have any idea how much it would cost to buy move and restore the Bishop's Hull organ?

see above - somewhere between £50,000 and £60,000, I think.

I will try find out what a buyer would get for the money but I think the price includes some re-leathering and a thorough overhaul of the soundboards and action. The pipework would get any attention it might need.

This organ cannot simply be transported from one church to another. It needs to go to a specific organ builder's workshop for some t.l.c. before being erected in a different building.

(It's a specific organ builder that has the instrument for sale, by the way. Potential buyers would not be able to go down a "three or four quotes from different builders" route.) The organ builder is an IBO member, so any buyer would have the peace of mind that the workmanship would be of a good standard.

Thank you, Presbyter. The Parish priest of a neighbouring parish said to me that he was on the lookout for a real organ to replace the parish toaster. The church in question is a 150 seater dating from about 1870, so this organ may be roughly what he is looking for. Whether he can raise 60 000p even is another question, but fortunately not for me to answer.

I've made an error. The cost of buying the one manual instrument above and having it moved and re-erected would be about £42,000. Sorry!

The one manual at the top of the thread is soon to be removed from the church in London. If it can go straight from one church to another, the price would be c. £30,000.
If it has to be dismantled and stored at an organ builder's and then transported again and re-erected, the price would be getting on for £50,000.
Message me if anyone is interested.
