Bp. Arthur Serratelli in his USCCB statement: 'There is a final text' (usccb.org/liturgy/current/romanmissalstatement.shtml.) has pointed out that: ' ... the published text will be available in more than ample time for implementation in Advent 2011.'
'A number of facts [see above] will hopefully clarify the situation and, in so doing, give us the calm needed to welcome and implement the new text.'
Is it now time for us to indeed calm down and get on with it?
- I have been given the go-ahead (informally!) to start introducing the new texts to the music group I help out with. (Well, not so new really, we sang these for the Pope's Mass at Cofton.)
I will be trying out Haugen's revised Mass of Creation, and Dan Schutte's Mass of Christ the Savio(u)r. The revised Grail Psalms should be with us soon, so I shall be looking at these and seeing what tones fit, or maybe some tunes I can up with myself.
I am rather hoping that a revised version of Fr. Peter Jones' Cov. Gloria will become available. Also some revised settings by Paul Inwood. I will also be trying out some of the settings that were originally intended for the Cofton Mass. (I really like the MacMillan setting, but I am not convinced that this will work - any ideas anyone?)
What are other people intending to do in the new year?
PS - It's good to have Nick Baty back!

John, I think you should be patient and remember that in England and Wales, we have our own Bishops' Conference.
I myself will be waiting to find out how our own Bishops are going to exercise oversight of liturgical music here: a matter that will be aired in the seminars for composers in March.
How do you know, for example, that Haugen's treatment of the new translation will be assessed as acceptable? How do you know that Peter Jones' revised Coventry Gloria - with a further two short refrains added - will be accepted?
Do you know what the conditions for imprimatur and concordat cum originali will be here? I don't.

Agreed. We don't yet know for definite that our version of the Ordinary will be the same as in the States. Its highly unlikely that it will be different, but many highly unlikely things have happened in this process.

Or indeed if our own Bishops...
