Feasts that displace the Sunday Mass

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

It sounds like your supply priest simply misunderstood the markings for omission (A vertical line in the margin in my missal, I don't remember what it is in the lectionary) to be those for inclusion. Validity is in no way affected.

In my copy of the Missal, the vertical line seems to mark the sections that have to be included, not the ones that may be omitted. Therefore the shortened form of last Sunday's Gospel omits the Prodigal Son story, as happened not only at Hare's Mass but at the one I attended, where the short form was used because there were a lot of baptisms and the PP wanted to save time. I hope the full version was used for the Mass for which I had prepared the liturgy, as like Hare I had chosen hymns and intercessions to reflect that parable.
