Papal Visit

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

This week's Radio Times seems reasonably positive about it?

Here's one of the most cringe-making glossaries you've ever seen:

Did you know Mass was a 'show' or a 'gig'? The sanctuary is a 'stage'? The celebrant is a 'headline act'? That liturgists are 'performers' or 'artists'?

I saw this in the newspaper yesterday, and I have to admit it definitely made me smile. Yes, it's completely over the top. Intended, it seems, to explain what we do to the "Government, police and technical people involved in the events". More then anything, though, I can't help thinking that it's a sad reflection on the society we're living in, that this probably is the only sort of language which some of them understand.

I'd imagine Mgr Gerry Fitzpatrick and Fr Peter Jones respectively but could easily be wrong!

Do you mean "Who is heading up the Bellahouston and Cofton Park gigs?"

Glasgow is Fr Michael Hutson

The others mentioned are also involved

The Glasgow celebration involves pipes and celtic harps - but not necessarily at the same time. :D

If it really maters who is waving the paw, isn't something wrong?

The Director of music informs me you must wait and see.......... but he was interviewed for Sky News yesterday in Bradford.
Perhaps it's someone from Bradford?

Just to be clear - Fr Michael Hutson is not directing the music both at Glasgow and at Birmingham. (Lest anyone did not notice Hare's comma)

It doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, but you might grant it of interest to some members of a Catholic liturgy 'n' music board.

Indeed. My question was purely out of interest, as there appears to be no mention in the Magnificat missal. Whereas credit is given for Hyde Park and Westminster Abbey - but not, for that matter for Twickenham, or Westminster Cathedral - although the latter doesn't take much working out....

Incidentally, perhaps Lakelark could expand a little as to why something is wrong if it matters? :?

Well, it probably matters that the Bellahouston Mass is risking being turned into a celeb spectacular with Susan Boyle singing a number (think 'gig' again) or two. Or that Carol Vorderman is being featured at Hyde Park ("I'll take a vowel, please, Carol, especially in the Hallelujah Chorus").

I didn't know she was a devout Catholic.

Is Delia Smith cooking the lunch at Oscott then?
