Feasts that displace the Sunday Mass
Here's a simple uncontroversial one - does anyone have a complete list of feasts that supersede the Sunday Mass if they fall on the Sunday - or is it if they fall within one day of the Sunday? (Yes, I know that I am just idle, but . . . )
Thanks.

Re: Feasts that displace the Sunday Mass
Off the top of my head they are:
Presentation of the Lord February 2
The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist June 24
Saints Peter and Paul June 29
Transfiguration of the Lord August 6
The Assumption of the Blessed Mother August 15 (Sunday this year - think it was Sat transferred to Sun last year)
Exaltation of the Holy Cross September 14
All Saints November 1
Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed [All Souls] November 2
Dedication of the Lateran Basilica November 9
I am not sure what the criteria are for transferal, but it often seems to be if they fall on a Saturday or a Monday (as with All Saints this year) they transfer to the Sunday. Not sure though....

Re: Feasts that displace the Sunday Mass
Only days of obligation are transferred to the Sunday from Saturday or Monday.
Nothing out classes Sundays of Advent or Lent.
All may or may not be made clear here http://www.catholicculture.org/culture/library/view.cfm?id=5932&CFID=45111086&CFTOKEN=22704470

Thanks for the clarification. I, too, was too lazy to look it up

Not All Souls, November 2, which can never fall on a Sunday in England and Wales, the reason being that if All Saints, November 1, falls on a Saturday, it is transferred to the Sunday, November 2, and All Souls is accordingly transferred to the Monday.

Apologies. I will try to get my facts right in future. I am probably thinking of a couple of years ago we were in France when All Saints fell on, and was observed, on Saturday; Sunday was therefore All Souls.
We also had a PP (briefly) a few years ago who was a law unto himself, and one year when All Saints fell on a Friday he took it upon himself to transfer All Souls to the Sunday so that "more people could observe it" Interesting point as to whether the masses were valid, and Sunday obligations fulfilled.......?

That's All Souls which can't fall on a Sunday. 2nd November can fall on a Sunday

What about Patronal Feasts - observed in individual parishes as solemnities - that fall on a Sunday?

or even, those that fall on Saturday being translated to the Sunday and displacing the Mass, in the Presence of an Archbishop

- but have you tried reading that? - that's exactly why I rather hoped someone might have already been more organised than me and worked out what it actually means.
However, best of all (or should that be worst of all?) . .

Aw c'mon folks - this is the Mass we're talking about - when ever was the Mass "not valid" ?

OK - "not valid" perhaps unnecessary; I was more interested in the Sunday obligation if the faithful have not heard the mass of the day in question.....? Is it a case of "they were there and it was not their fault the wrong texts were used, therefore they have fulfilled the obligation" ?
Invalid mass: 1) My PP tells of a visiting (?) American "Bishop" when he was at Seminary, who said several "masses" and proved to be bogus - not even ordained.
2) "Home-grown" Eucharistic Prayers............?
3) We had a visiting priest who felt unwell and started the Sunday mass at the Offertory. Anyone.............?

Re: Feasts that displace the Sunday Mass
I had an interesting experience many years ago on holiday in Flagstaff, Arizona. The elderly priest missed out the entire central part of the Eucharistic Prayer - and no one appeared to notice, not even the deacon who was assisting him. When said deacon (or MC, I can't remember which) came down the church giving the sign of peace, I said to him, "what, no consecration?" He went back to the altar and there was a muttered conversation. Communion duly followed: those who know me may imagine what I muttered under my breath. As the recessional procession passed me the same deacon/MC said to me "don't worry - Ecclesia supplet". I.e. the Church supplies a remedy for the fault. I was furious and had to be dissuaded from making a scene.
I haven't thought about the incident since, but I have just looked up 'Ecclesia supplet' on the internet and find the following from a canon lawyer's blog:
'Ecclesia supplet' provides for bona fide defect of jurisdiction, but not of form. So what did all those folk at Flagstaff receive at Communion that evening? Did they fulfil their Sunday Mass obligation?
Sorry, musicus, I'm off topic, but interesting, eh?

Ecclesia supplet does not remedy those cases wherein innocent persons bore the consequences of ministers making invalidating changes in sacramental form.
