Natty boxer shorts, I seem to recall hearing from some of those 1st Sops! We must make sure this year's MD is aware of the problem or provide her/him with a windbreak.
Last night I attended a concert to which I had been invited (by the good offices of Dr Laurence Paul Hemming, of the Society of St Catherine of Siena and Usus Antiquior, for the record). It was at St James's, Spanish Place, and was given by The London Oratory School Schola. The star piece was the première of Roxanna Panufnik's 'Schola Missa de Angelis', commissioned by the Schola, and based on the late plainsong Missa de Angelis. This was the concert version, with brass and organ: she promises a simplified congregational version with optional SATB choir, of which the Kyrie was helpfully printed in the programme. Not for the faint-hearted!
Why do I tell you this? Because 'The Schola is tremendously proud to have been selected to perform, together with the Colla Voce Singers (a choir of music graduates most of whom are former pupils of The London Oratory School) and St Chad's Choir, as the core choir for the Beatification Mass for Cardinal John Henry Newman at Coventry in September.'
The 28 boys sang sweetly enough but the 25 men sought to emulate the Sistine Choir, so Pope Benedict will feel quite at home in the draughty spaces of Coventry Airport.
