The disaster that is Christmas

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Yes I suppose you are right.

It is naff is The Servant King. It was the ex Cantor's favourite. Miss Half a Tone Flat that is. No longer speaking to me sadly. But I do include it for her to sing, because inspite of rumours, I do try to please as many people as I can within the constraints.

But I still like the stars being flung into space. Much better than twinkly stars. I like to observe the Servers during "So let us learn how to serve" hoping for a timely mishap. I also hope it might prod someone else in the church into a bit of music service.

But they're all out shopping and other such Christmassy busies.
uh oh!

I agree with Oops - Hands that flung stars into space, to cruel nails surrendered is brilliant poetry, as good as anything I know by a contemporary songwriter. The only thing a purist might object to is the harmonic crunch in the refrain, but there's nothing to stop anyone musically half-literate replacing the offending chords if they don't like them. We use the setting published by the RSCM, which has harmonies throughout that would get past the GCSE examiners. :-) Plus vocal harmonies in the refrain and a nice a cappella setting of verse 3.

Apparently this couple are very Traditional ( Bovered? They'll be dead soon).

They may be, but Tradition is alive and kicking. Yay!!!

Yes, it's the harmonies throughout that are offensive, not to mention the melodic tritone in the refrain. But worse than all of that is the appalling word setting in the refrain. Anyone would think English wasn't Kendrick's native language.

Well, its almost here: Services and Masses galore! Just off for a 90 minute choir rehearsal. Good Luck and God be with us all during the various rehearsals, Carol Services, Masses today and tomorrow as well as Saturday and Sunday. Let's hope we can find some family time for the 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentle(wo)men' bit!

Happy Christmas to everyone! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Ah but that's quite useful for aural tests etc, what with Maria being less well known than it used to be - kids have never heard of Danse Macabre.
