Resources sought!

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

Resources sought!

Post by palookaben »

Hullo all,

Does anyone have any stacks of Celebration Hymnal for Everyone (Full Music) that they want to dispatch to a deserving Catholic church in Kent? Ditto for any copies of the Responsorial Psalm Book edited by Geoffrey Boulton Smith? Hope this is the right forum to ask this begging question, apologies if not!!!

I hope you find a source of supply for CFE.

Geoffrey's A Responsorial Psalm Book is like gold dust, however. It was popular enough to go out of print relatively early in its life, but not soon enough for the bean counters, so it took several years to persuade the publishers to do a reprint. That, too, was exhausted long ago, and I very much doubt whether you'll find any donors. In fact, people have even been known to surreptitiously pinch other people's copies when they come across them unguarded. Disgraceful!

Thanks for the reply. I feel a little aggrieved at having to spend nigh on £50 a copy for CHE as a new item and the new edition seems radically different to those we have already. Having returned to the fold after three and a half years in a job with NEH I like the look of Laudate but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say that in my parish!!!

On the Boulton Smith, that's a shame but it's fun to write one's own psalmody and foist it on an unsuspecting congregation! Locrian mode anybody?

Welcome to the forum palookaben.

I'm taking us off topic, so let's treat it as a temporary swerve rather than a detour, but with the new translation imminent, should we be buying new hymn books at all? Anything that contains the ordinary will be redundant fairly soon, certainly before the lifespan of the book is over. (Why did Mayhew make HO&N indestructible!!) I've never used CFE but I guess you're only talking about a new full music copy rather than refitting the congregation.

Yes,

Given the crazy layout of the ordinary in CFE I'm tending to make new editions of the ordinary through the magic of sibelius so I currently only need 10 copies of full music for our expanding choir. (As a Welsh Catholic I can't resist getting them to sing four part hymns!!!)
The £500 for those though is five sevenths of a new batch of full music and 200 odd congregation copies of cheaper hymn books so it would make sense to wait before a refit!
