Yes, indeed it was; but the STMG also later had its own meetings for the purposes that HallamPhil describes. BTW, at the latest SSG meeting extracts from a number of new settings by SSG members were discussed and dissected, so there's plenty going on in our midst.
And responding to Phil's and presbyter's point, Marty Haugen has been widely demonstrating his adaptations of the Mass of Creation on both sides of the Atlantic ─ not to universal acclaim, it appears ─ so that's at least one more that's out there rather more publicly.
Of course, in theory we're not supposed to use any of the new texts until implementation dates have been set....
And the texts themselves may possibly not yet be final.The USA publishers are sitting on large quantities of settings and are simply waiting for the green light in order to publish them. That green light is not expected until after the Vox Clara March-April meeting, at which time that body will apparently decide exactly what it will recommend for recognitio. How quickly the recognitio will materialise thereafter is a matter for conjecture.
The American NPM some time back announced a competition for new settings. It plans to try out four of those submitted at next year's national convention in Detroit, and 'ask the audience to vote' on what they prefer. The X-Factor comes to liturgical music....
And the competition rules state that no setting can be submitted which is under consideration by a publisher, so that effectively eliminates all the material that the USA publishers have in the works (unless publishers and composers collude...).In addition, an English diocese has issued personal invitations to a number of composers to submit samples with a view to one of them being commissioned to produce a complete setting.
So ─ there won't be any shortage of material to chew over, once the go-ahead is received.
