I think that there is a danger here. The primary musical instrument of the Church is the voice of the congregation. Since V2, there has been some successful music that people will sing.
In my view, the introduction of choral music and Latin, could reduce the congregation to silence.
Also, it has to be noted that some members of 'The new liturgical movement' are unsympathetic to the music of Bernadette Farrell, Marty Haugen, Michael Joncas and The St Louis Jesuits.
Re: Sing. It's your responsibility.
The article has a point about the way choirs in Catholic churches are perceived. Some of the comments are off but that always happens.

I assume that you will be pleased to see the that there is now a moratorium on the moratorium on the music of Haugen. See http://web.archive.org/web/20080207034230/http://www.mgilleland.com/music/moratorium.htm.

How sad that people should behave in that manner.
These composers are using their God given skills and are now being abused for it by others who seem to believe they are superior in some way.
What kind of advertisement for Christianity is a site like that?

Mea culpa, I had not intended to offend. I came across the site one wet lunchtime searching for information about Haugen. I thought it was rather silly myself - a bit of a mickey take at those who play nothing else. It does usefully serve to remind us that whatever views we hold there is almost certainly someone somewhere who holds the exact opposite view.
Back on topic, I certainly have the problem the NLM article describes. People who consider themselves choir members, come to the choir to sing at mass but never ever come to a rehearsal, and then complain to me after mass that I have played music they did not know.
The parish seems to be run in work terms, by the same few people. They clean, repair, decorate, sing, play instruments, visit the sick, give lifts for the people who can't walk, serve on the altar, and a myriad of other jobs. The only popular job is minister of the Eucharist at mass, with over half the congregation on the rota. It is a real problem how to get more people involved in the other jobs.

Re: Sing. It's your responsibility.
I have it on good authority this very evening, that a young friend of one the oopsies does not come to Mass anymore (well, not at our church) because
................................people don't sing.
Where did this idea that singing is the job of only a few people come from? Dear me. Sigh.
I wonder where she goes, if she goes, I could find out, I could go to..............
