The wickedness of face cream

Well it does to the people who post here... dispassionate and reasoned debate, with a good deal of humour thrown in for good measure.

It'll soon be Christmas! I was recently sent a list of carols that included:

"Hark the Harold angles sing"

In the parish where I grew up, they once printed the Midnight Mass service booklet which included the words:

"God and dinners reconciled"

Christmas is a rich field for this sort of thing:

Child in the manager
Bright the bison [vision] that delighted....
Lo! he comes with clods descending
For Christ is torn of Mary
Torches! Torches! Fun with torches

Tried hard not to giggle yesterday when the reader announced a passage from "The Book of the Elasticus".
Unfortunately, the PP is right in my eyeline.
He buried his face in his chasuble when we heard that "kindness to a father ... will serve as repetition of your sins."

This reminds me of a reader in my parish a few years ago who, very confidently, read 'Lord, you are my portion' as 'Lord, you ate my portion.' I've always wondered what she thought it meant.

Not sure how today's bidding prayer should have read, but we heard, "....and bring them into the darkness of Christ."

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but it's funny enough to warrant a second airing....

A Priest once told me about one of his brother Priests who was rather fond of food, and during Mass (old translation) once said "This is the leg of lamb who takes away the sins of the world....."

He likes to tell the story to people in confession when they say they are distracted during Mass

The priest in question was Fr Michael Joncas, who did it in Italian when he was studying for his doctorate in Rome. Very easy to do. The Italian for lamb is agnello. The Italian for roast leg of lamb is abbacchio, and there is even a special Eastertide recipe for Abbacchio Pasquale — Paschal Lamb!

Instead of saying "Ecco l'Agnello di Dio", Michael said "Ecco l'abbacchio di Dio", and reports that there were jaws dropping all round the congregation....

Reminds me of the time I mistyped "Bread and wind" in a Maundy Thursday order of service.

At the Easter Vigil I was present at this year, as the candle was being prepared, I heard "Alphaga and Omega".

Heard yesterday: 'now where have I put those celeriac hosts?'
