Re: Holy Day Vigil Masses

One can see the reason for the greatest vigil of the year - the Easter Vigil. And the Pentecost Vigil is I suppose emblamatic of the waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Vigil Mass of Christmas is explained I imagine by the fact that although it fulfils the Christmas oblogation, its ...

Re: Which Missal?

I discovered last night that the CTS edition does not have the sense that the new Lectionary readings have.

I guess that it stands to reason - it's already large because it has both English and Latin.

But it's another black mark against it.

Holy Day Vigil Masses

Can anyone tell me why some Holy Day Masses have an actual Vigil Mass, with its own readings and propers (eg Assumption) whereas for others, any Mass held on the eve is an Anticipatory Mass, with the same readings and propers as on the day itself (eg All Saints).

Re: Cost of Mass books

I learned last night that we are going down the route of buying in A4 sheets that will have all the readings. They will be handed out with the Newsletter. Though, personally, I would prefer the Newsletter to be handed out as people leave; the homilies of our new priest are good enough not to require ...

Which Missal?

Could I have your input as to which personal Missal you use/prefer and why. Last time, I bought the CTS edition; partly because it had the Latin as well as the English (not that I attend Latin Masses) and partly because it included the Missal Tones. However, I am not convinced that it's the most ...

Re: Cost of Mass books

Our parish is in this very situation. My initial reactions have been..... 1) Why on earth were the new Missal and new Lectionary not introduced together? When they introduced the new Missal, the powers that be KNEW that they were working on a new Lecitionary. Could they not have predicted the ...

Re: Triduum Planning

At the last singers rehearsal on Sunday, I spotted thet we would have been singing "Like the (old?) dear yearns for running streams...." at the Vigil. :?

Do you mean Penticost this year or next?

The last info that I had was Advent this year.

Re: Triduum Planning

How are all your arrrangements going?

In the last week, I have lost one of my Psalmists/Cantors (but there are another three, so we will cope) and my organist for Thursday, which has necessitated some changes. :?

Re: Triduum Planning

I once worked in a parish where you couldn't be on the rota for reader or the rota for minister of communion until you had done the training that the PP prescribed. This worked very well. His rationale was that if you couldn't be bothered to be as good as possible then you shouldn't be ministering ...

Re: Triduum Planning

The very difficult issue we suffer from is that readers are very reluctant to practice, so when everyone else - cleaners, sacristan. servers, flowers and musicians are at the top of their game ..... readers are often ill-prepared and stumble and mispronounce (I am still recovering from a Good ...

Triduum Planning

We had our (two) parishes' Lent and Easter planning meeting a couple of weekends ago, and our singers will have the first rehearsal in another couple of weekends. We may have a Baptism, Deo gratias, which means that I can dust off my Litany music. (I haven't sung a Litany of Saints since the ...
