Re: Canon Peter Jones

The first time I met Fr Peter was at a liturgy training session at St Thomas More, Coventry. He started by reading us the gospel reading that we had last Sunday, explaining that any liturgical practice is based on the simple message: "It is the Lord". If what we are doing helps people recognise The ...

Ahlborn H6

Noticed this listing on eBayhttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ahlborn-H6-digital-organ-for-sale-/121891733746, I think it's similar to the instrument our own Fr Peter has. Might be of interest to readers based around SE London or thereabouts.

Re: Funeral Liturgies in Theory and in Practice

We 'fixed' the eulogy issue by putting a short bio of dad in the service book, and the celebrant simply drew attention to it before starting the Penitential Act. It worked, in that those who were interested could read it, those who weren't didn't have to, and mourners could take it away as a ...

Re: Eucharistic Adoration

When I was a lad, I loved Benediction. Me too. I boarded, and on Sunday evenings we left our classrooms at 7:10pm for Benediction, and were in the ref for supper by 7:30 unless it was one of the very elderly J's celebrating. I think it took a crew of a about a dozen servers: the youngsters carried ...

Re: Worldwide Eucharistic Adoration ???

Well, we'd already planned a Corpus Christi procession across our village, so had a period of adoration after arriving at the church before going on to benediction. Not a whole hour, but in solidarity with the worldwide church.

I hope this might be useful to someone out there!

I was wondering for Sunday about "Who is she that stands triumphant."

Re: New Pope

We'll be celebrating our patronal feast next Tuesday evening after his inaugural mass. However, alas, I doubt the Vatican will be following us in using Alan's Mass of St Joseph for the occasion.

Re: Pope's resignation

I find it interesting how much of the comment comes from his brother Georg. I always imagine the papacy must be quite a lonely office to occupy, and I assume Benedict and his brother are close. If he was chewing over the idea of abdication then I'm sure Georg would have encouraged him in it guided ...

Re: Leeds Cathedral Midnight Mass on BBC1

The Vierne was the main reason I watched (until I fell asleep, sorry, I'd played Midnight Mass at 8, and was to be up for Day Mass at 9:15). I found the sermon about the wet and used straw illuminating.

Re-opening and dedication of Cathedral Church of St Marie

Hope it all goes well.

Many thanks for letting us borrow your Canticle of Tobias for our own consecration in July. Glad to see it getting an outing back on its own turf.

Re: "Ah-men" or "Ay-men" ("Ay" as in "day" etc)

I remember being taken aback the first time I went to mass in Australia and the opening greeting sounding like a Monty Python sketch... "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" "EYE-MEN!" As for the English, I always thought it was a catholic/anglican thing, like RE ...

Re: Notation software

Has anybody used Musescore? If Sibelius is at risk of pulling down the shutters, would a move to free (libre) program under GPL be indicated? The danger with proprietary software is always "what happens to all my files if the maker disappears".

Re: The 'Twelfth of never'...

The 8' flute is quite a clean tone, so short of harmonics. I'll very occasionally pair a Nazard with a 8' string for a mournful tone, but usually won't use it without a fifteenth as well.
