Congregational singing - and even the responses proper to the laity - were in the sole possession of a ...

Re: Heritage Open Days
Our two-day event went smoothly and was appreciated by our visitors, several of whom were curious to find out about or return to the Catholic faith. Re: Heritage Open Days
We are opening 10am-4pm on Friday and Saturday. Visitors will be able to explore, guided by signage explaining everything from aspects of Catholic worship to architectural features. Volunteers will be on hand to show visitors 'behind the scenes' - e.g. the sacristy and confessionals. The parish ...

Are any parishes / churches participating in the Heritage Open Days weekend - 11-14 September? In particular I am thinking of events beyond the 'come and look round our nice building' format. Evangelisation, music, other events....?

Iraqi Christians: bidding prayer suggestion
Possibly of use:
We pray for Christians and other faith communities persecuted in Mosul and elsewhere in Iraq. We pray that their faith may help them in their tribulations and their search for sanctuary, so they may then receive compassion and care.

Re: The Great War
The Mass gave an opportunity to reflect on the tragedy on a day when media coverage has been largely about sound bites. Nut sure that what happened in Westminster Abbey last night can be termed a sound bite.... Was referring to the mainstream coverage during the day up to the time of my posting SC.

Re: Pope Francis moves to suppress liturgical abuses
Why do 'we add all the flummery'? Custom and practice? Jobs for the boys and girls? A desire to give everyone a part in the 'performance'?

The Great War
What have parishes been doing to mark the commencement of the tragedy that is The Great War? Our parish marked the event with a Solemn Requiem Mass for the Dead this evening. This was preceded by the PP reading out of the names of parishioners killed in the conflict, while young parishioners lit a ...
