Re: Bishops fix date for ending old music settings
Perhaps at the same time the bishops will insist that priests use only the new translation, not pick and mix, or ignore it, as some do now. For the bishops to issue this musical directive now, without having ensured that their presbyteral brethren toe the line, is illogical. Personally I like the ...

Re: Organ nightmares
As a young man I played at a local Anglican church. Just prior to my leaving there was a LIVE tv communion service. Not being Anglican I was unsure what to expect and no-one obliged me with a text. The organ was at the back, up stairs, and the chancel was some way off, slightly out of clear view ...

Re: Going down to one Mass
I'm following this with interest, as we are going down to one mass in our church around Advent.
Because it is likely to be the main mass which survives (we haven't been told yet!) and I am the only musical link I don't anticipate many problems, except that the disappearing mass congregation will ...

Re: Organ nightmares
Just read the post about Whitby, where I play in the successor church. I hadn't seen this one before. From what I've heard of Mr Lawson, this was not a one-off 'discussion.'
The organ was only two years old at this time, and may actually still exist in another church, though not in use, having left ...

Re: The wickedness of face cream
Brings to mind the old joke about Matings and Evensnog! And I did actually see 'Complain' on a notice once.

Re: 4 o'clock Vigil service?
Been following this thread, just thought I'd add our experience.
We have a new PP this year; he asked a few weeks ago what we usually did - 8pm 'midnight' Mass, plus 30 minutes sing-a-long beforehand (hate it, but congregation seems to like it though don't sing well), and 10.30 Christmas Day.

Re: Conditional Baptism
I've read this thread with interest, and just thought I'd add my own experience. I was received into the Church some 33 years ago on Holy Thursday evening, aged 20, by an old-fashioned Irishman, now sadly gone ahead.
I duly presented my certificate of baptism from my infant Anglican 'do', which he ...

Re: Invitation to be blessed at communion time
My PP uses words along the lines of 'Mindful that there may be some here today unable, for whatever reason, to receive communion, there is always an invitation to come forward and receive a blessing from the minister.' He doesn't say this at every Mass, but he always does so at Requiems.

Re: A year on, what are we singing?
Hi Nick
We had them under previous priest; but this guy doesn't believe in inserts or even Funeral and Wedding sheets, so cancelled the licenses. Mindful of Hebrews 5,2 I won't say more; I like him, and the way he says Mass.

Re: A year on, what are we singing?
Interesting conversation. Maybe we're doing better than I thought.
We are currently singing the revised Lourdes Gloria, and struggling with the extra syllables, the Missal Holy Holy, and Missal Acclamation no.2. We've tried the Missal Gloria, and may come back to it.
