Re: Missal/Lectionary demarcation

Read section 5 of the Guide for Composers Q. There are set texts and model texts.

I see that the Communion Antiphons are model texts but I couldn't find any info on the Good Friday Reproaches or the antiphon at the Adoration of the Cross. Does anyone know if these are set or model texts? I also ...

Re: GIRM - Preferences when options are available

At another church I visited recently, the card with the new responses was unequivocal in this regard: after the Sanctus the instruction was "All kneel": not even a mention of the option preferred by the GIRM!

Was this in Scotland? Here we have the instruction to kneel after the Holy, Holy as the ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

OK . To stop the speculation it's Dumfries and Galloway.
All parishes are being asked to learn the Mass of Resurrection for the next three Diocesan events, Bishop's 50th Anniversary Mass at the beginning of October, the Diocesan Mass for the Dead at the beginning of November, and the Mass of Chrism ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

So the Mass of Resurrection is to be used in all parishes throughout Scotland? Or are you referring to a particular diocese? Who decides this? And why weren't we consulted?

Not all Scotland. One particular diocese.

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

Then the site goes on to suggest some new settings by those connected with the site. Entrepreneurs, obviously. Respect. We should similarly stop beating about the bush and start promoting some our great English Catholic composers. The Scots have no scruples, and good for them. I hear great things ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

Well auchincruive, if you're in Glasgow, Paisley or Galloway diocese, I think you might be getting James MacMillan - whose St Anne Mass now contains a Gloria. No idea if James has re-written his Galloway Mass though.

Not sure Glasgow will go with the St Anne's Mass. I see Fr Gerry Fitzpatrick ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

Don't keep us in suspense as to which diocese and which Mass setting.

Don't know which setting is being proposed(imposed?). I wouldn't mind too much if it were the St Anne's Mass but I've a feeling it's probably an American version since the St Anne's Mass isn't published yet.
Don't want to ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

But presumably many other parishes do!?!

I can't think of any parish that sings at daily mass except a few who would sing the Alleluia before the gospel.

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

Are the Powers that Be simply asking for one setting which everyone will know for use at diocesan occasions: Chrism Mass etc? That would appear sensible.
I don't know yet. I agree that would be sensible but I suspect that things have been left so late that "the Diocese" is trying to take the easy ...

Re: The New Texts: Formation (discussion)

A notice appeared in our church bulletin yesterday. It announced a workshop taking place in our deanery "to give people the opportunity to learn the new musical setting of the Mass the Diocese has decided to use in all parishes for the next year or two". (my emphasis)
Can "the Diocese" do this to ...

Re: The New Texts: Implementation without Accompaniment

Is the Inwood Psallite Glory available here yet? It was an interesting (chant) approach to the text given at the Seminar for Composers.

I haven't found it here yet but a downloadable review copy is available at http://www.theromanmissal.org/LUYH.htm

Re: The New Texts: Implementation without Accompaniment

And what I hope to achieve in this thread is to pool our experience to identify those which are simple enough to be learned and carried off without accompaniment. For instance, for those (including myself) less able to carry a tune, perhaps a Gloria set to something like a two- or four-line psalm ...

Re: PANEL decisions

Are there any indications that the panel is sensitive to new punctuation? I notice that the punctuation of the Holy, Holy has changed. Previously 'Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might'. but now 'Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts', which means that 'Holy Lord God of hosts' is now intented ...
