For those with the technical basics, craftsmanship and a feel for the ethos of the tradition - yes. Though to be fair, those pre-requisites make a case for "no", too: we've suffered in the pews from their absence, but if you have them it's definitely not DIY.

Not at all, Alan - just observing that incompetent, self-serving bureaucracies have much in common and attract similar support, whatever their ostensible purpose.

Re: Notation software

I'm less inclined to assume well of The Man than some here. I guess that's not surprising in a place sponsored by an organisation so chummily conformist that it hesitates to speak ill of the dishonesty and incompetence of Ecclestone Square.* The Finn brothers (the software's progenitors) are ...

Re: Ecclesiastical furniture wanted!

I say again: address the issue, not the person. I have only slightly moderated the previous post; I could have gone further. This snarky, sniping tone is not welcome here. The person concerned has the same Christian (am I allowed to say that?) name as the one who posted here under the honesty of ...

Ecclesiastical furniture wanted!

First, all credit to Paul H for recognising and supporting the heartfelt devotion of choir members and its traditional physical expression, rather than loftily telling them they need not do that. There are self-styled liturgical experts hereabouts who would do well to consider the humility of his ...

Re: Notation software

Now's the time for a new product to enter the market. The Finn Brothers must be well beyond the point at which contractual obligations can stop them, and given the circumstances the London/Cambridge team can hardly be prevented. I would be inclined to buy a product from such a source. I don't know ...

Tsk, tsk. Just let it go, my dear honorary life member.

Re: More from Mgr Wadsworth

The SSG’s object is “to promote study, understanding and good practice in the celebration of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church, in accordance with the teaching of the Church.” The Trustees hope that Mgr Wordsworth can provide some insight into the new translation and its process, and provide ...

Re: More from Mgr Wadsworth

Some people have asked me whether I have something against Mgr Wadsworth, so I just wanted to clarify that he is a really nice man and that I get on extremely well with him on a personal level. I just don't happen to agree with everything he says! Wouldn't it be a boring world if we all thought the ...

Given the well-known thing about SC I'm not allowed to mention, this is a quite remarkable public statement. There's nout so ultamontane as the elbows of a disgruntled liberal.

Re: Bishop Arthur Roche - Vatican Appointment

Very sorry to hear that you've not had the courtesy of a reply — from anyone, presumably. To be fair, the Acting Secretary responded, albeit with bewilderment, when I begged to differ with the Cabal’s pronouncement. There was then a bit of an hiatus until the point at which he made it clear that my ...

Re: Bishop Arthur Roche - Vatican Appointment

Oh dear - I'm afraid his administrative and managerial track record bodes ill for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. The grapevine says that he has been sent in to clean house. The Roman Curia speak openly about how dysfunctional CDWDS are. The previous ...

Re: Psalm Response 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)

This is one of the few responses that was changed in the later edition of the Lectionary. Therefore, while "The just will live in the presence of the Lord" is correct according to the 1981 Lectionary, "Lord, who shall be admitted to your tent" is also "correct" according to the 1970 Lectionary ...
